William Lund
William Lund, retired as the Associate University Librarian for Information Technology, at the Lee Library of Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah. He holds a Master of Science in Operations Research from Stanford University, a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Drexel University, and a Ph. D. in Computer Science from BYU. As a former research and development manager for Hewlett Packard Company, his background spans both library science and information technology.
Links and Personal Interests
On August 5, 2014, I gave the weekly BYU Devotional at the end of the summer term. It was a great honor to be asked to speak. My topic was "For God so Loved You," comparing the immensity of the universe to the attention and love our Father in Heaven gives to each of us individually.
Disney and their theme parks has been a hobby for years. The Mouse Maps website documents all of the large poster-sized maps which used to be sold at the Disney parks.
Disneyland in Anaheim, California officially opened on July 17, 1955. Today, there are twelve theme parks either owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company or licensed from the Walt Disney Company, with more to come. Of those, six mirror in many aspects the original Disneyland and are called “The Magic Kingdom.” At its opening, Disneyland was unique. This site is dedicated to exploring the history of Disneyland through the large poster-size maps published and sold in the park.
Apple iOS Applications
Since retiring I have been exploring new technologies. Most recently I have begun writing apps for Apple's iPhone. The first was, a very, very simple task manager named, appropriately, "Simple To Do Organizer". Surprisingly this was my first app and it was accepted. You may download this app for free.

Tasklist on SourceForge
Tasklist is an open source SourceForge project written in Perl for a simple web based tasklist. This was written quite a while ago and needs to be run on a server that supports a web server.
The Zell Scott Foundation is named after two of the grandmothers of the grantors and is funded through an inheritance. Our hope has been to share some of the blessings with which our Heavenly Father has blessed us with our community.
Volunteering
My father-in-law said that you shouldn't retire "from" a job, you need to retire "to" something else. I've been enjoying the various volunteer opportunities in computer science.
- United Way of Utah County Digital Inclusion. Named the volunteer of the year in 2019 by the Provo City Library for my work in the open computer lab.
- TEALS. A Microsoft sponsored nation-wide program teaching computer science in high schools. I've been assigned to provide distance teaching support for the Clint ISD High School in Clint, Texas.
- After School Coding Class at the Provo Peaks Elementary School for two years.
- Timpview High School volunteer in a computer science class for two years.
- English Language Acquisition for one year.
Favorite Radio Programs
- This American Life. Ira Glass does a great job exploring and exposing stories you can’t stop listening to.
- Pipedreams. Organ music, mostly from the US but some times from abroad.
- NPR. National Public Radio for news.
